SINCE the one-stop-shop (OSS) was organized at the NAIA main Customs office to attend to all concerns relative to the novel coronavirus 2019, all shipments relative to the supplies needed by our health frontliners have had a smooth sailing and reach the intended parties quickly, thank God.
The Bureau of Customs-NAIA has also been in the forefront of the fight against COVID 19, expediting all releases of virus- related items such as face masks and personal protective equipment or PPEs, among others.
NAIA District Collector Mimel Talusan said Customs-NAIA personnel are now working round-the-clock or 24 hours, seven days a week to ensure complete manpower in all warehouses and all passenger terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. And even if some work from home, their operations are unhampered.
Among the latest, biggest help to the anti-COVID efforts is the swift release of 57,600 test kits from the Alibaba Foundation through the Manny Pacquiao Foundation. Said test kits, said to be worth at least P400 million, are intended to assist the Department of Health in the fight against the coronavirus.
Before that, the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government also donated to the city of Manila, through Secretary to the Mayor Bernie Ang, 200,000 pieces of N95 face masks, 100,000 pieces of surgical face masks and 2,000 pieces of infrared thermometers.
The donation was coursed through the office of Secretary to the Mayor Bernie Ang and his consultants Ana Sy and Raj Kumar and then handed over by Wen Guohui, the mayor/secretary of Guangzhou City.
Talusan said that since March 9, 2020 to date, the BOC-NAIA has expedited the release of 1,616 importations and foreign donations of medical supplies and PPE shipments.
According to her, the entire BOC, Manila International Container Port, Port of Manila, Port of Cebu, Port of Clark, Port of Limay and other ports have been facilitating expeditiously all PPEs in line with the directive of Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.
The one-stop-shop aims to assist stakeholders by expediting the release of Imported Relief Goods/Articles/Equipment/Medical Supplies intended as donations and attend to all inquiries and concerns related to the importation of PPEs and emergency goods.
The OSS is also now responsible for coordinating with other government agencies in processing donated relief goods, articles, equipment or medical supplies.
This initiative is in line with Customs Commissioner Guerrero’s directive to expedite the release of medical and PPE shipments that will be used to contain COVID-19.
The efforts of the Customs-NAIA under the rein of Talusan do not go unnoticed. In fact, this week alone, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., twitted his satisfaction over the fact that nothing gets stuck in the Customs as shipments are released within the day, saying he used his contact to check on this.
Mayor Isko Moreno, in his Facebook account, also thanked Customs-NAIA District Collector Talusan for helping in the expeditious release of the medical supplies for the health frontliners in Manila.
Just like all the other frontliners in the fight against COVID 19, the personnel running the Customs-NAIA OSS are heroes too. Can you imagine the bulk of work they have that they now operate 24/7 just to make sure that all shipments relative to fighting the coronavirus are released almost outright and not a second longer.

Beauty tip: During rainy season, excessive moisture on skin is one of the most common problems. This may be prevented by using humidity-protective gel before styling. These gels help by forming a protective coat over the hair cuticle and preventing excess moisture from getting in, so that straight hair will not become flat and curly hair will not have frizzy strands.
