PEOPLE, including the ordinary citizens, feel great anxiety about whether more wanted Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits are now in Metropolitan Manila (MM) and surrounding areas.
Reports said that some ASG fighters have managed to find jobs as security guards, vendors and construction workers in the heavily-populated National Capital Region (NCR) or MM.
But it is heartening to note that state security forces have been looking for these ruthless bandits who fled the heat of the government’s stepped-up offensives against them in Mindanao.
In fact, B/Gen. Eliseo DC. Cruz, Southern Police District (SPD) director, identified the latest Abu Sayyaf member to be arrested in Metropolitan Manila as Aldemar Saiyari, alias “Ali.”
A main suspect in the Sipadan kidnappings in April 2000, “Ali” was found to be working as a security guard at Filinvest 3 Building in North Gate Cyberzone, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
In a report to M/Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office, Cruz said Saiyari was nabbed by police operatives for violation of the Omnibus Election Code.
The operatives came from the SPD District Intelligence Division, PNP Civil Security Group and Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agency and the Joint Intelligence Task Group of the Joint Task Force-NCR.
The PNP deserves the all-out support of the people as it exerts its best efforts to identify, locate and arrest all ASG members in the metropolis.
Without doubt, it’s a move in the right direction since ASG members are known to be plain bandits and kidnappers.
