VARIOUS quarters concede that the work ethic of the 18th Congress is “truly admirable,” with the House of Representatives demonstrating a capacity to always uphold public interest.
What is important is that all the hard work of members of the Lower House of Congress,” led by Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, did not go unnoticed.
The head of the highly-influential Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa), the United States-educated Romualdez is a lawyer and husband of Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez.
“For the first time ever, a huge majority of our constituents gave a bzzz019 to March 11, 2020, the solons processed a total of 1,279 proposed measures or an average of 24 measures a day during the 54 session days. The 18th Congress opened on July 22.
During the period, Congress passed seven bills of national application, which President Duterte signed into law, including the General Appropriations Act, Salary Standardization Law 5 and Sin Tax Law.
Republic Act No. 11466, or the Salary Standardization Law, is seen to benefit about 1.4 million government officials and employees.
“Under the leadership of Speaker Cayetano, your representatives performed beyond the call of duty to help President Rodrigo Duterte fulfill his promise to our people,” said the House majority leader.
With its outstanding performance, the House of Representatives “finally regained public acceptance and now ranks as one of the most satisfactory government institutions” in the Philippines.
Thus, all sectors of society ought to give Congress – the Senate and the House of Representatives - all the help it needs to be able to address all the problems confronting the Filipino people.
