A vital legislation

December 13, 2018

THE Filipino people are now looking to former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go to provide barangay officials with additional benefits and social protection.

This, Go, who, like President Rodrigo R. Duterte, is known for his sincerity, honesty, integrity and efficiency, will do by pushing for the enactment of a “Magna Carta for Barangay Officials.”

Today, the “Liga ng mga Barangay National Board” is in consultation with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and other concerned agencies in the crafting of the proposed law.

Likewise, the Magna Carta for Barangay Officials seeks to further advance the interest of village officials, who play a very crucial role in keeping their communities safe, clean and orderly.

Without doubt, we, like other well-meaning Filipinos, cannot overemphasize the importance of the former SAP’s help in the crafting and enactment into law of the proposed vital piece of legislation.

As a trusted aide of the Chief Executive from Davao City, Go is in a position to orchestrate the speedy passage of the measure if elected senator in next year’s national and local elections.

Go said he will study the possibility of having village officials receive salaries instead of honoraria and to receive allowances and other benefits to which regular public servants are entitled.

Aside from pushing for the crafting of the proposed magna carta for village executives, Go also stressed the importance of recognizing the role of barangay workers, including health workers.

“Tulad ng ibang kawani ng gobyerno, dapat ay ma-recognize at mabigyang importansiya ang kanilang role sa ating komunidad,” said the soft-spoken but workaholic Go.

If elected member of the Senate, people expect the highly-popular Go to deliver on his avowed pro-poor agenda.
