ALEX Gonzaga considers this year as a good one for her. She had a hit solo movie recently, “Nakalimutan Kong Kalimutan Ka”, which did quite well at the box office. And now, she has an entry in the Metro Manila Filmfest, “Mary, Marry Me”, where she co-stars with her own sister, Toni, with Sam Mliby as their leading man.
“It’s a dream come true for me,” she says. “Noong bata pa kami ng Ate ko, pumipila kami kapag may Metro Manila filmfest on Christmas Day to watch some entries like ‘Mano Po’, ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’, ‘Crying Ladies’ at iba pa. At ngayon, kasali na kami at isa na ang movie namin sa mga pagpipilian ng viewers para panoorin, so kakaiba ang feeling.”
It’s her first time to work with her sister in a movie. “We are both excited and the movie is produced by the company of her husband, si Paul (Soriano), 'yung TEN17P. It’s a learning experience for all of us. We’ve learned more about working with each other as a team. Nakita namin ang work ethics ng bawat isa, pati 'yung how we treat our co-workers, so ayun, ang dami niyang sinasabi sa akin at ang dami ko rin namang sinasabi sa kanya. Very intriguing ang story ng movie kasi nakatakdang pakasal sa’kin si Sam, then na-meet niya ang Ate ko and it becomes an unexpected love triangle for all of us.”
What are their chances of winning acting awards come the filmfest award night? “Naku, we don’t pressure ourselves about that. We’re just happy na nakasali kami sa filmfest and that is enough for us. I’m looking forward to joining the annual parade of stars at yung kakaway-kaway sa mga tao. I’m sure it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
