JASMINE Curtis Smith feels privileged to be a member of the cast of the local adaptation of the popular Koreanovela, “Descendants of the Sun”.
“I’ve seen the original series and I really liked it kaya umiyak pa ako when it ended,” she says. “But never kong naisip na balang araw, I will be a part of its remake, kaya naman I’m now very happy to play Capt. Moira. I auditioned for the role and I’m truly delighted na ako'ng napili nila. It’s a big project. Kasama na 'yung planning and pre-production, parang inabot na ng one year in the making ito. And now, we’re all so proud to finally show it to the viewers starting this coming Monday, February 10.”
Her role was originally played by Korean actress Kim Ji Woon.
“It’s a good role about a young woman who’s in love with another soldier, played now by Rocco Nacino, pero 'yung love nila, hinadlangan ng father niyang general. I really like the role and I consider it a great blessing na sa kabila ng fact na many auditioned for it, sa akin napunta ito.”
What does her Ate Anne Curtis say about her involvement in “Descendants of the Sun”?
“You know, nagdasal ako for this and my sister even prayed with me. Now, I’m glad that our prayer was answered favorably. My Ate Anne was so happy when she learned I bagged the role kasi, alam naman nating big fan siya ng Korean dramas. Manonood daw siya ng ‘Descendants’ and I hope I will make her proud.”
How is it working with Rocco Nacino? “Nagkasama kami sa ‘Pamilya Roces’ more than a year ago, but hindi kami ang magkapareha roon. He’s basically good natured kaya masayang katrabaho. Compared to before, we became closer as friends while doing this show, and we’re really glad when people tell us na maganda ang chemistry namin on screen. I’m also enjoying working with Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado. Pareho silang mabait, easy to get along with. We all work so hard, along with Direk Dominic Zapata, para mapaganda talaga ang show at hindi ma-disappoint 'yung viewers who love the original ‘Descendants of the Sun’.”
It’s common knowledge that she and her BF Jeff Ortega (from the political clan of the Ortegas in La Union) have been on for sometime now. Any plans of walking down the aisle soon?
“Naku, matagal pa siguro bago namin mapag-isipang gawin 'yan. Baka in five years, when we’re really ready to settle down. We’re both still young and we want to prioritize our careers muna. No need to rush.”
Isn’t she envious her Ate Anne will have a baby soon? “I’m so happy for her. She’s now in Australia with Erwan to deliver the baby there. Break muna siya entirely from work to devote all her time to the baby. Happy muna akong magkapamangkin at maging auntie, bago ako mag-baby ng sarili ko. Hindi pa ako handa. Mas excited ako to be a tita.”
