FOR the first time, Nathalie Hart talks at length about how she and her boyfriend and father of her daughter, an Indian national, separated. “Ready na lahat for the wedding,” she says. “May gown na ako at lahat, but I changed my mind kasi I felt the relationship wasn’t really working. Ang usapan talaga, the wedding is after I gave birth sa Australia. After that, lumipat kami sa kanila sa New Delhi and all our individual and cultural differences came between us.”

Didn’t she see this when they were on? “I made it clear to him na this is my upbringing, you should understand our culture, sabi niya, okay raw. And noong una nga, okay naman, I thought it’s gonna be a compromise. But I was shocked when we’re living na in India, na hindi pala. Dapat, sumunod ako lagi sa family nila. Nothing in the middle. I just have to follow them totally. I have to be submissive to their whole family.”

She says she tried her best to feel happy in India. “I really tried living there, I even gave up showbiz, but I cannot cope with it. At dumadalas ang away namin, sigawan, hindi naman nauwi at all sa physical, just exchange of hurting words. May post partum depression pa ako, so hindi na ako happy with my life, kaya bumalik ako dito sa Pinas.”

She’s thankful that her manager, Leo Dominguez, helped her get back on her feet. “Siyempre, I have to work, kasi may daughter ako, e. And also na-miss ko rin ang acting. I’m so glad to get new assignments. Right now, I’m doing three new movies for Viva.”

The day after we interviewed her last Thursday, she flew to Japan with Meg Imperial and Ella Cruz to shoot a film in Fukuoka. “The title is ‘Kunwari Mahal Kita’. Then I’m also doing a comedy with Janno Gibbs and Jerald Napoles, ‘Pakboys’, directed by Al Tantay. And there’s another movie with Ryza Cenon and Joseph Marco na wala pang title. So I’m happy that I’m busy again.”

Doesn’t her husband send child support for their baby? “He does. Mahal niya "yung anak niya, saka friends na kami. He was just here last week kasi nami-miss niya ang daughter namin. Nag-uusap naman kami, e.”

Does she still love him? “Siyempre, may nararamdaman pa rin ako. After all, father siya ng anak ko, e. But no romance na. I’m still in the process of healing.”

What if he woos her again? “Well, let’s see. But definitely, if ever, it has to be on my terms kasi I’m not the type who’ll just be a very obedient wife. Mahal ko rin ang career ko at di ko basta maiiwan ito.”
