THERESE Malvar just won the best Indie Film Actress of the Year at the Laguna Excellence Awards recently for her fine performances in the Cinemalaya entries “Distance” and “School Service”. The award is not surprising as she was really excellent in those movies, playing very diverse roles. So her fans who watch her regularly in the GMA afternoon soap “Inagaw na Bituin” were surprised when the character she plays, Ariela, was suddenly killed last week.
What happened was Angelika de la Cruz as her mom, Lucy, was able to escape from prison. The show started as a musical and a singing competition between Therese and Kyline Alcantara as Anna, but now, it has become an action-thriller with Angelika turning into a scary psychopathic killer determined to murder all her perceived enemies. When she tried to shoot Sunshine Dizon as Belinda while they’re in an abandoned building, Therese as Ariela arrives, pushes Sunshine away at the nick of time and gets shot to death instead by Angelika, her own mom.
Of course, Angelika runs amuck and further blames Sunshine even if the death of Therese is really her fault. Marvin Agustin, Therese’s dad, also wails uncontrollably when he sees what happened to his daughter. Regular viewers of the show quickly registered their reaction on social media. Jovie Villa wrote: “Why did you have to kill Ariela kung kailan naging mabait na siya? Lucy is really hateful. Siya ang dapat na namatay dahil kasalanan niya ang lahat. Sobrang sama niya kaya pati sarili niyang anak, napatay niya pero di niya matanggap na siya ang talagang may kasalanan.”
But fans of the show are also debating whether Therese really died or is still alive. They express their hope that in the new episodes this week, Therese as Ariela will turn out to be just unconscious and not really dead yet.
Glenda Deuce wrote: “I really like Therese Malvar because she’s such an amazing young actress. I don’t think she died. I won’t be surprised if her character, Ariela, would be revived in some future episode. Looks like she was just shot on her shoulder. She cannot die because she was billed from the start of the show as one of the two lead characters, along with Kyline Alcantara.”
Meantime, Sunshine’s character, Belinda, also got wounded when she wrestled with Angelika and they fell from the second floor of the abandoned building and a sharp pointed piece of steel pierced her side. Will Kyline and Marvin still be able to rescue her from the clutches of Angelika who has obviously lost her mind? As they say, the plot thickens, so don’t forget to tune in this week to find out who will survive and who will die in the next episodes of “Inagaw na Bituin”.
