THE modern lifestyle of most urbanites is not healthy. Diet consists mainly of comfort foods from fastfood chain restaurants which are high on fats and sodium.

Based on studies, common health conditions in older age are now being experienced by young adults – hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and other related cardiovascular diseases.

A person can have clogged arteries as early as in his 20s. People experience all kinds of symptoms from blocked arteries, but there are some common ones.

* People with clogged arteries can have chest pains, commonly called angina.

* Lower back pain can come from a reduced blood flow to the back, which can even lead to painful herniated disks. Studies even showed that people with chronic back pain are more likely to have clogged arteries.

* Clogged arteries can also lead to shortness of breath, which could eventually lead to malaise and fatigue. According to one study, people with this symptom may be suffering from high-risk heart disease.

If you are fond of the Western diet, you’re likely to be at risk.

What’s in the Western diet? It is a diet full of fatty and sugary foods, such as burgers, fries and soda.  Western diet are high in saturated fats, red meats, ‘empty’ carbohydrates, junk foods and low in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seafood and poultry.

Health effects have been linked to things such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, colorectal cancer and dementia.
