THROUGH its social good arm, SM Foundation (SMFI), SM has already provided several critical medical supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPEs), N95 masks, surgical masks, alcohol, goggles, face shields, gloves, ventilators, and many more to more than 100 hospitals—both public and private—nationwide.
These donations form part of SM’s PHP170 million allocation to boost hospitals’ resources to combat the Coronavirus Diseases 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic across the country.
Dr. Nestor Garcia of Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center, one of the hospital recipients, shared how the donations from SM were timely as they are having delays in the procurement of medical supplies, “Our supplier was not able to provide us with adequate amount of N95 masks, goggles, and other critical medical supplies. These donations from SM came just in time!”
Dr. Garcia further expressed his gratitude to SM, “I know that the Foundation is helping so many other hospitals fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and Chinese General is so lucky to be one of their hospital partners. And for that, we are very much thankful!”
Meanwhile at the Binakayan Hospital and Medical Center in Kawit, Cavite, Medical Director Dr. Pilar Rozul recognized the efforts of SM Foundation in helping combat the spread of COVID-19 across the country, “We consider the Foundation as our partner in helping fight COVID-19 in Binakayan.”
“Our President, Dr. Macrima Isabel Hayag, sent a request to SM Foundation when the hospital started having persons under investigation (PUIs) and confirmed COVID-19 cases admitted to the hospital,” she shared.
“The donation came timely as we had to protect our doctors and other medical staff, guards who are manning the hospital, and our janitors and helpers who are deployed in the wards to disinfect the area.” Dr. Rozul added.
Aside from its donation of medical supplies, SM Foundation also distributed packed meals, cakes, bread, and other tasty products—courtesy of Goldilocks—to frontliners such as health service workers, and to the members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police who man the checkpoints.
SMFI, in partnership with Uniqlo Philippines, also reached out to the families in grassroot communities affected by the ECQ by providing them with kalinga (food) packs through the Operation Tulong Express program.
SM Foundation is the social good arm of the SM Group of companies that intends to improve the quality of life of Filipinos by doing its share in providing access to quality education, healthcare, sustainable agriculture, social inclusion and relief during crisis.
