1 of 3 in couple’s holdup gunned down in Caloocan

ONE of the three armed men who robbed a couple of more than P400,000. worth of cash and jewelry was gunned down by police in a shootout in Caloocan city.

Elements of Caloocan Police Community Precinct (PCP) 6 were able to trace the whereabouts of the still unidentified slain suspect after they earlier arrested Michael Dela Roso, 38 of Waling-Waling St. Sampaguita Village, Bgy. 176 Camarin who was positively identified by Mary Grace Morales, 41, businesswoman of Bgy. Bagong Silang, Caloocan city.

Caloocan police chief P/Col. Dario Menor said his men were still conducting a follow-up operation for possible arrest of the remaining suspect who managed to elude arrest during the operation.

Investigation showed that at around 8:15 p.m. Monday, the couple was eating along the sidewalk of Continental St. Bgy. 171 Bagumbong when three armed men suddenly appeared and at gunpoint declared the heist.

After taking the cash money of the victims amounting to P395.000 intended for the purchase of a second hand pick-up, personal belongings and P45,000 worth of jewelry, the suspects fled on board a Kawasaki Fury motorcycle towards an unknown direction.

The victims immediately sought police assistance that resulted in the arrest of Dela Roso who was seen by Morales standing along Bankers Road, Bgy. 171.

During interrogation, the arrested suspect disclosed the possible whereabouts of his cohorts prompting lawmen to proceed to the area and spotted the two on board a motorcycle along Jovan Street, Bgy. 171.

However, upon sensing the presence of lawmen, the suspects engaged lawmen in a shootout that resulted in the death of one of them while his cohort managed to escape.
