AT least 142 police officers from the Eastern Police District (EPD) tested negative for illegal drug as part of the Philippine National Police (PNP) intensified random drug testing for police personnel to rid the organization of “scalawags”.
EPD director Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba said a total of 142 operatives from the District and Station Drug Enforcement Unit and the Intelligence Unit underwent a surprise drug test last November 13 to ensure cops are free from using illegal drugs.
Police thought they were just attending a command conference at the EPD headquarters in Pasig City but they were also underwent a surprise drug test.
Based on result released by the EPD-Scene of the Crime Operatives, who conducted the test, all 142 personnel tested negative for drugs.
In case any policemen tested positive for illegal drugs, test is the basis for the filing of charges against them.
Balba also revealed that the random drug test is being held egularly to make sure that the operatives are drug-free.
The drug test was part of PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde’s efforts to rid the police force of officers engaged in drug trade and use.
