NINE members of two families living in one roof were killed when a fire engulfed their house yesterday before dawn in a thickly populated area in Bgy. Maricaban, Pasay City.
Pasay City Fire Marshal Supt. John Pinagod, Jr. said the entire Wablas family composed of Julius Wablas, 39, his wife Rheadela, 40, niece Julie, 46, daughter Nichole, 9 and son Jurick Andrei, 3, were trapped inside the first floor of their house on 336 Almazor St. Brgy. 185 when the blaze started at around 2:10 a.m.
Wablas’ relatives, the Calma family, composed of Michael, 44, his sons Mark Joseph, 23, John Clark, 17 and Andrew James, 11 who were occupying the second floor, were also killed when they failed to get out of the burning house.
Supt. Pinagod said three of the charred bodies of the victims were found inside the bathroom, another was in the kitchen, two more on the second floor, one inside the room and two near the main door. All the bodies were almost burned beyond recognition.
Michael’s wife Jasmine, 43, the only survivor, told arson investigators she managed to get out even she was nearly blinded by thick smoke but her husband, who was already awake, tried to rescue their sons but he was also trapped inside
Jasmine said she was awakened by the smell of thick smoke emanating from the computer located under the stairs prompting her to wake up her husband.
“Narinig pa raw niya na sumisigaw ang kanyang mister pero huli na para mailigtas pa dahil mabilis ang pagkalat ng apoy,” arson probers said.
The blaze only reached first alarm before it was put out at around 3:14 a.m. while authorities placed an estimated damage of fire amounted to P50,000.
