A GUNBATTLE erupted between agents of the National Capital Region Office of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and members of an organized crime gang in Caloocan City late afternoon Saturday resulting in the killing of two suspects and the arrest of four others, a report to PNP-CIDG director, Major General Amador V. Corpus said yesterday.

CIDG-NCR chief, Colonel Ronald G. Hipolito, said that the suspects engaged his men in a shootout after they sensed the ongoing entrapment operation inside  Lots 18 and 19 of Phase 9, Block 19 in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

“There was an ongoing buy-bust operation when the suspects started firing prompting my officers to retaliate killing two on the spot,” the official said.

Slain during the encounter were Nelson Lorenzo  and one Mike Sultan while arrested were Julius Abeja, Imelda Navida, Randy Camsalim and Jesus Maclang. Camsalim was taken to the hospital after being wounded during the gunbattle.

According to Hipolito, members of the CIDG Northern Metro Manila District Field Unit led the operation in coordination with the Northern Police District.

He said that Lorenzo had just sold a caliber .38 revolver for P3,500 to a poseur when he apparently sensed he was dealing with a cop and tried to shoot the lawman with his handgun before running and taking cover inside his house.

Other cohorts of the suspect also joined Lorenzo in shooting at the policemen until the two suspects were killed and another was wounded. The three others were forced to surrender after being cornered.
