Police killed two suspected robbers after attempting to evade a checkpoint in Quezon City, early Wednesday.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, PCSupt. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. said, the suspects are yet to be identified. Both of them are described to be in their early 40’s, medium built, wearing black jackets and black bonnet.
A report gathered from QCPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit showed that the incident happened at about 2:15 a.m., January 16, 2019, PS 6 policemen were manning a checkpoint along Payatas Road cor. Molave St. when they spotted a motorcycle on board two suspicious looking men. They flagged down the suspects but ignored the lawful order and sped-off.
Police chased the suspects and were cornered along Katipunan Extension, AMLAC Subdivision, Lupang Pangako, Bgy. Payatas. The suspects reportedly fired gunshots toward the police that led to a shootout and the death of the suspects.
Further investigation showed that the suspects had just robbed a call center agent identified as Maribel Fernandez, 28, of Bgy. Payatas of her bag containing cash, cellphone and other belongings.
Fernandez positively identified the suspects who robbed her at gunpoint on Ilang-ilang St., cor. IBP Road while on her way to work shortly before 2:00 a.m.
Aside from the recovered belongings of the victim, police also confiscated two caliber .38 revolver Smith & Wesson, 14 sachets of shabu and a black and orange Yamaha Mio Soul motorcycle without plate number used as their getaway vehicle.
Esquivel commended the operatives for their accomplishment. He reminded the public especially motorists to slow down when approaching a Comelec Checkpoint and to come to full stop when ordered so.
“Sa pagsimula po ng election period noong Linggo, asahan po ninyo ang mga checkpoints sa maraming lugar sa Quezon City. Huwag po nating balewalain ang mga checkpoint lalo na kung tayo ay pinapahinto ng mga alagad ng batas. Ito ay para rin sa kaligtasan ng pangkalahatan bukod sa maiiwasan din ang hindi kanais-nais na pangyayari kapag hindi huminto sa mga checkpoints,” he said.
