TWO students set a good example when they turned over to the police P115,000 in cash which they found abandoned in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday.
P/Supt. Robert Domingo, station commander of the Manila Police District-Station 4, said that at around 11 a.m. last December 19, cousins Nicolo Abasta, 18, a student at the National University, of Avida San Lazaro in Sta. Cruz, Manila and John Carlo Abasta, 21, of San Beda College and residing on P. Campa Street, Sampaloc, Manila, were aboard a UV Express bound for SM Fairview in Quezon City from Pedro Gil Street on Taft Avenue when they found a black pouch.
Thinking that a fellow passenger may have left behind the said pouch inadvertently, the two cousins took it and then brought it to the MPD-University Belt Area Police Community Precinct. When opened, it was found to have contained checks, a power bank and cash amounting to a total of P115,000.
The owner of the pouch was identified as Jess Nazarene Macatunggal, 25, an accountant residing in Don Galo, Parañaque City. He was contacted via his social media account and his money and belongings were subsequently returned to him.
