Two village watchmen of Bgy. Commonwealth were arrested for allegedly extorting money from a woman they accosted for unknown reason.
QCPD director, Police Chief Superintendent Joselito T Esquivel Jr., identified the suspects as Ben Ripol and Rolando Ferrera.
Report showed that a female victim was arrested on Monday by the said suspects in Commonwealth market for unknown reason. She was brought to the barangay hall and was threatened to be charged with illegal drugs if she could not produce P50,000 in exchange for her release.
The victim’s sister sought help from the Batasan Police Station (PS 6) that immediately conducted an entrapment operation.
The suspects who were arrested at around 1 a.m. yesterday, received the entrapment money amounting to P30,000 from the victim’s sister.
During the operation, police discovered 38 more persons detained inside the barangay detention facility. The detainees said they were rounded up for violation of city ordinances and other offenses but no charges were filed against them. They accused the barangay personnel of beating them and even extorted money ranging from P500 to P1,000 for their release.
Several firearms and drug paraphernalia were also confiscated during the operation. Police brought those detained to PS 6 for investigation and disposition along with the tanods who will face charges of robbery extortion.
