February 07, 2020

THREE members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) are now facing charges for robbery extortion following their arrest in an entrapment operation Thursday afternoon in Navotas City.

Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas identified the arrested firemen as SFO2 Benjamin Mabborang, Jr, 47, of South Sea, Bgy. Rizal, Makati City, FO1 Federico Sablay II, 28, of B. Cruz St., Bgy, Tangos, Navotas and FO1 Kimberly Reyes, 29, of Purok 5, Bgy. Dalampang, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, all assigned at the BFP Navotas.

The arrest stemmed from the complaint of 67-year-old Jessie Que of Faith St., Teresa, Bgy. Bahay Toro, Quezon City who accused the suspects of demanding from him P100.000 in exchange for the release of fire incident report and recovery permit pertaining to his garage which was gutted by fire last February 1, 2020.

When the victim sought police assistance, Col. Balasabas directed P/SSgt. John Mikhail Garces, P/SSgt. Gerry Maliban and P/SSgt. Elmer Miguel, all assigned at the Station Intelligence Branch to conduct an entrapment operation.

At around 1:30 p.m., FO1 Sablay received from the victim a marked money amounting to P10,000 at 81 Nicasio St., Bgy. San Rafael Village which prompted operatives to pounce on him, together with his two cohorts.
