FIVE Chinese nationals involved in the kidnapping of their compatriots who were unable to pay their casino loans were arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group last week, PNP-AKG director Chief Superintendent Glenn G. Dumlao reported yesterday.
The PNP-AKG also rescued in separate operations last December 26 and 29 two Chinese nationals Kang Xintong of Chang Chun City, China, and Zaiping Yang of Guandong, China, who were abducted by the suspects.
Dumlao said Kang’s mother in China received a call from the kidnappers last December 12 through Kang’s WeChat account telling her that her son is in the suspects’ custody and would only be released if she paid them P70,000 Renminbi.
However, after paying the amount, the kidnappers demanded an additional P1.4 million from Kang’s mother prompting her to seek the help of the Chinese Embassy which reported the incident to the PNP-AKG.
At around 4 p.m. last December 20, the PNP-AKG received a call from an interpreter of the complainant named Raymond Tan informing them that the victim was able to escape from his kidnappers.
Dumlao said that they were able to rescue the victim in Katarungan Village, Muntinlupa City. A follow-up operations were conducted which led to the discovery of the suspects’ abandoned safehouse in Jaranilla Street in Barangay Poblacion, Muntinlupa City, where the victim was illegally detained for 11 days.
During investigation, PNP-AKG operatives learned that the house was rented by a certain Pan Sinja and two others who were identified through CCTV footages in the area.
Zaiping was rescued last December 26 at around 10:20 p.m. at Room 1033 of Hilton Hotel in Pasay City.
Zaiping lost all his money while playing at the Resorts World Casino. He was later approached by the suspects who lent him P200,000 worth of casino chips. After he lost again, the victim was taken by the suspects to a hotel room where they forced him to call his relatives in China and ask 30,000 Renminbi for his release.
Dumlao said they learned of Zaiping’s abduction when one of the suspects accompanied the victim at the hotel lobby that same day where the victim got an opportunity to ask help from his girlfriend and other Chinese friends. Hotel security personnel in turn called up their office.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the suspects identified as Zhou You Liung, Chang Chang Chun, Yu Jiang Yang, Ao Peng Liang and Yang Yu Qi. All were detained at the PNP-AKG jail in Camp Crame and are facing charges for kidnapping-for-ransom with serious illegal detention.
