AUTHORITIES arrested seven habal habal drivers during anti-colorum operations yesterday in Quezon City.
They were identified as Mark Angel Juanson, 24, Jaspher de Leon, 35, Ferdinando Roxas, 36, Bgy. Nagkaisang Nayon, Mark Joemel Galarce, 26, Entero Mosqueda, 35, Darwin Ybanes, 42, all from Bgy. San Agustin and Aris Martinez, 32, of Bgy. Capri.
The riders were reportedly caught in an anti-colorum operations along Samonte 2 Street and Gen. Luis Ave., Brgy. Nagkaisang Nayon, Quezon City, at about 3:30p.m., March 19, 2020 by combined personnel of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) under PM Manuel Dela Cruz, District Traffic Enforcement Unit (DTEU) headed by PM Michael Sanchez and LTO-NCR led by PRO Joemel Quimpan.
They were accosted at checkpoint for having backrides and when questioned they admitted charging the passengers certain amount ranging from P50.00 to P60.00 depending on the distance.
They were issued ordinance violation receipts while the motorcycles were impounded.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Police Brigadier General Ronnie S Montejo said, despite the existing Enhanced Community Quarantine which prohibits or suspends among many others public or private conveyances, regular police operations remain including anti-colorum operations. Again, we appeal to our fellowmen especially to those who have ‘no more business’ to go out to just stay home. After all, those who continue to violate laws and policies implemented for the Enhance Community Quarantine may face arrest. “We are doing these for everybody’s protection to fight the dreaded COVID-19”, he added.
