Abby releases P2K financial aid each to jeepney drivers in Makati

March 22, 2020

MAKATI City Mayor Abby yesterday ordered the release of P2,000 financial assistance yesterday to almost 2,000 jeepney drivers who are bona fide residents of Makati City and members of the Makati Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (JODA).

The mayor’s directive is part of the city’s efforts to extend financial assistance to members of the informal sector who are severely affected by the enhanced community quarantine in the city.

There are 1,826 registered Makati JODA members and 5,952 tricycle drivers who are eligible to receive the P2,000 financial assistance.

“Like tricycle drivers, our public utility jeepney drivers are unable to earn for their families during the community quarantine period. We empathize with them and want to give them something to help tide them over for a few days. We know this is not enough, but I would like to assure everyone that more help is on its way. Kapit lang po tayo, malalampasan po natin ito,” Mayor Abby said.

She stressed that funds are only available to jeepney and tricycle drivers who are residents of Makati City and members of the Makati JODA or TODA. The city will be verifying information submitted in the financial assistance application forms, especially the address.

Mayor Abby added that applicants have three options:  they can apply online at http://bit.ly/MakatiFinancialAssistance; call the hotlines for financial assistance designated for each barangay, or secure an application form from their barangay and return the completed form. The barangay will then submit the application online or call the hotline on their behalf.

Once approved, the money will be delivered to the jeepney or tricycle driver’s house.

The city is still finalizing details for financial assistance to other members of the informal sector such as pedicab drivers.
