THE construction worker who was positively identified as having raped an eight-month-old baby girl recently, was killed inside a police station under the Manila Police District (MPD) after reportedly grabbing the gun of a duty jailer.
Supt. Bobby Glenn Ganipac, MPD-Station 9 commander, himself fired the shots that killed rape suspect Benedicto Dizon, alias ‘Jumong’, 22, of 2288 Leveriza St., Malate, Manila.
Dizon was, declared dead-on-arrival at Ospital ng Maynila at 10:15 p.m. He sustained two bullet wounds in the chest. SPO2 Richard Escarlan of the Manila Police District-homicide section said the incident took place at around 9:30 p.m. inside the Ganipac’s office.
The incident, a detainee identified as John Gilbert, called the attention of PO1 Dennis Javier, duty jailer, as Dizon complained of breathing difficulty.
It was learned that Dizon was beaten up by the victim’s relatives before he was taken by the police. Javier took Dizon out of the cell and brought him to the office of Ganipac where he was offered drinks to ease his conditions.
Dizon’s handcuffs were removed so he could drink, he reportedly took the gun of Javier then fired but missed.
Ganipac saw what happened and fired at the suspect. Dizon is facing rape charges after the baby’s 16-year-old mother filed a complaint against him. He reportedly raped the baby at around 5 a.m. last Sunday while the victim was sleeping.
A medical checkup showed the victim had been raped, as a laceration was found on her private organ.
