A barangay councilman (kagawad) was shot dead by a lone gunman after buying vegetables from a stall yesterday morning in Malabon City.
Dante Sih, 53 of Luis St., Bgy. Panghulo died on the spot from a single bullet wound in the nape while the suspect, wearing full faced helmet, boarded a waiting motorcycle driven by his cohort and threw leaflets with markings “Armadong Rebolusyonaryong Manggagawa” before they fled towards an unknown direction.
Malabon police homicide investigator P/SMSgt. Joselito Bagting said the incident happened at around 9 a.m. at the corner of Talipapa Rodriguez and Molawin Streets, Brgy. Panghulo while the victim was about to board his motorcycle with red plate number SL-6447.
The assailant approached the victim from behind and shot him in the nape at close range, killing him instantly. Police recovered from the crime scene an empty shell for caliber .45 pistol which will be submitted to PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.
Meanwhile, the Malabon City government and Team Kakampi of Vice Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and Cong. Ricky Sandoval condemned the killing of Kagawad Sih who garnered the second highest votes in the last barangay election.
In a statement, Malabon public information head Bong Padua said the city government called on the police to give swift justice to the victim’s family by launching impartial investigation and relentlesly pursuing all possible leads within the bounds of the law.
Sandoval couple for their part believed that the killing was politically motivated and called on the PNP, DILG and Comelec to investigate the senseless slay of an elected official whose primary purpose was only to serve his constituents.
