A NATIONAL bowling team member on Friday night was shot and killed by an unidentified man wearing a surgical mask while having snacks at the cafeteria inside the bowling center he was managing in Greenhills, San Juan City.
San Juan Police chief Senior Supt. Dindo Reyes said the victim was identified as Angelo Constantino, 50, married, of Barangay Manggahan, Pasig City.
Reyes said Constantino, who won a bowling gold medal in the World Youth Championship in Venezuela in 1992, sustained four gunshot wounds in the head and died on the spot.
Initial investigation showed the victim was eating at the Bar and Resto on the secong floor of E-Lanes Bowling Center, E-Square Building on Ortigas Avenue, Greenhills, San Juan City when the suspect entered the building at around 5 p.m.
According to Reyes, the unidentified suspect was wearing a cap and denim short pants and had on a surgical mask.
The suspect pretended to order food, but when he saw Constantino who was eating at a table he approached him and suddenly pulled out a gun from his sling bag and shot the victim at close range thrice in the head.
As the victim lay on the floor, the gunman shot him again.
The attacker fired shots in the air to scare people away and walked casually down to the basement where a cohort was waiting for him on a yellow scooter. They drove towards Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City.
Police investigators yesterday morning recovered a caliber. 45 pistol with serial number 125706 believed to be used by the suspect and four empty shells and slugs hidden near the parking entrance.
Police theorized that the suspect intentionally left the gun to avoid a police checkpoint where he could be arrested. The motive behind the killing has yet to be established.
