Businessman’s good deed costs him his life

A 38-year-old businessman who tried to pacify two men in a traffic altercation yesterday morning in Caloocan City was shot dead by one of the protagonists.

Rommel Balatbat, of 1650 Santan Saranay Homes, Brgy. 171 Bagumbong, died on the spot from a single bullet wound in the head while the suspect, identified as Xian Margalo, immediately escaped and is now the object of a police manhunt.

Initial report received by Caloocan police deputy chief for administration Lt. Col. Ferdinand Del Rosario showed that at around 11 a.m., the suspect, on board a Hyundai Elantra with license plate number UNI-491 and an unidentified driver of an LD-300 van figured in a heated argument in Palmera Spring, Phase 3-A, Brgy. 175, Camarin.

The incident caused traffic gridlock in the area prompting the victim to intervene and try to pacify the two.

However, the driver of the Hyundai Electra turned his ire on the victim, grabbed his handgun from his car and shot Balatbat in the head point blank, killing him instantly.
