POLICE arrested a taxi driver who held up his Malaysian national passenger in a follow-up operation yesterday before dawn in Pasay City.
Pasay police chief P/Col. Bernard Yang said Jose Sajul, 61, of 29 Engineering St., GSIS Village, Sangandaan, Quezon City was arrested at the corner of Pacific Drive and Marina St. an hour after he held up Tze Chea Kon, 22, IT programmer and resident of 44 Tower B Shore Residence, Seaside Boulevard, MOA Complex.
Head of investigators P/Maj. Wilfredo Sangel said the victim flagged down the taxi cab driven by Sajul at around 3:30 a.m. at the corner of EDSA Extension and Sunrise Drive but instead of bringing him to his destination, the driver pulled out a bladed weapon and divested him of his wallet containing P6,000.
The suspect ordered Tze Chea Kon to get off his cab and drove away, not knowing that the victim was able to jot down his license plate number UWG-421.
The victim sought the assistance of police who immediately conducted a follow-up operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
Police recovered from the suspect a bladed weapon and the cash money he divested from the victim.
