Cameroonian nabbed for duping Chinese $16.7K in Manila hotel

A Cameroon national  was arrested after he allegedly tried to dupe a Chinese national of US$16,700 cash inside a hotel in Manila early yesterday morning.

Now in the custody of the Manila Police District-General Assignment and Investigation Section (MPD-GAIS) is suspect Zeukoue Calvin, 31, a Cameroon national temporarily staying at the Dusit Hotel in Ayala Center, Bgy. San Lorenzo, Makati City.

Complainant Zhang Ping Ping, 33, a female Chinese national, currently staying at the Rizal Park Hotel in Ermita, Manila, stated in her complaint that the suspect enticed her to change her US dollars at a higher rate.

However, once she handed the money, the suspect was able to change the bills with fake ones.

As an argument ensued, the suspect allegedly tried to escape but was prevailed upon by the victim’s companions Leo Zhange, 49, and Tom Wang while the victim went straight to the police to seek assistance.

The fake dollars are now with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for verification.

The suspect is now facing charges of estafa through swindling under  Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments credit under Article 168 of the RPC before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
