Carnapping raps mulled vs cop

THE Manila Police District Anti Carnapping Unit said it is mulling filing charges of carnapping against the Manila policeman who was identified as the owner of a motorcycle which was reported stolen and which he lent to a man who got accosted for driving without a helmet in Paco, Manila recently.

Chief Insp. Salvador Tangdol, head of the MPD-Anti-Carnapping Section (MPD-ANCAR), said John Louie Ramos, 29, was accosted while driving a gray Yamaha Mio Sporty at a checkpoint at the corner of A. Francisco and Onyx Streets at around 7 p.m. for not wearing a helmet.

A verification by the Highway Patrol Group (HPG)  showed that the motorcycle he used was stolen from a teacher who parked it infront of a fastfood outlet at the corner of  Tandang Sora and Visayas Avenue in Quezon City in July 2018.

Ramos pointed to PO2 Chuck Jethro Mariano of the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) of the Manila Police District-Station 2 as the owner of the said motorcycle, claiming he merely borrowed it.

A check was made at the compartment where a property acknowledgement receipt was found  and which bore the picture of Mariano.

A probe is being conducted on how Mariano got ownership of the said  hot vehicle.
