CEB, PAL cancel flights due to ‘Ompong’

THE country’s local airlines, budget carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) and Cebgo and flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced flight cancellations due to typhoon ‘Ompong (international name: Mangkhut)’.

According to CEB spokesperson Ma. Rosario Lagamon, CEB and Cebgo cancelled the following flights: September 14, 2018-5J 506/507 Manila-Tuguegarao-Manila; 5J 192/193 Manila-Cauayan-Manila; 5J 821/822 Manila-Virac-Manila; DG 6111/6112 Manila-Naga-Manila and DG 6009/6010 Manila-Basco-Manila; Sept. 15, 2018 (Saturday) -- 5J 504/505 Manila-Tuguegarao-Manila; 5J 506/507 Manila-Tuguegarao-Manila; 5J 196/197 Manila-Cauayan-Manila and DG 6009/6010 Manila-Basco-Manila.

“Affected passengers are strongly advised not to proceed to the airport, but instead avail any of the following options, without penalties: Rebook their flights for travel within 30 days from original departure date; place the cost of the ticket in a Travel Fund for future use or get a full refund,” Lagamon said.

For other passengers flying to and from Manila and Clark from yesterday (Sept. 13, 2018) until Saturday (Sept. 15, 2018), Lagamon said they may also chose to rebook their flights within 30 days from original date of departure without penalties, as we are expecting flight changes due to this typhoon.

PAL also issued an advisory that certain flights originally scheduled on Sept. 14 (Friday)-Sept. 15 (Saturday) have been cancelled. They are as follows: Sept. 14 -- PR2688 Clark-Basco; PR2689 Basco- Clark; PR2614 Clark-Tuguegarao and PR2615 Tuguegarao-Clark.

PAL spokesperson Ma. Cielo Villaluna said the Sept. 15 cancellations are: PR2196 Manila-Laoag; PR2197 Laoag- Manila; PR2198 Manila-Laoag; PR2199 Laoag-Manila;PR2688 Clark-Basco; PR2689 Basco-Clark; PR2614 Clark-Tuguegarao and PR2615 Tuguegarao-Clark.

Villaluna said PAL is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates should other routes be affected.

“We encourage passengers to check the status of their flights within 48 hours to flight departure by logging on to’s flight status page or by downloading the PAL Mobile App. You may also check flight status by calling PAL hotline (02) (+632) 855 8888 or by visiting the nearest PAL ticketing office or partner travel agent,” Villaluna said.

Villaluna added that affected passengers (with contact details on their PNRs or Passenger Name Records) shall receive notifications on their flight’s cancellations via email and/or call-out and/or SMS/text message.

‘Passengers of cancelled flights may rebook within 30 days from original travel date, with rebooking service fees waived. Other options include flight rerouting and refunding of ticket cost,’ Villaluna said.

Reports have it that heavy rains are expected in Northern and Central Luzon as well as the National Capital Region throughout the weekend until Monday.
