A 33-year-old Chinese national was killed while his wife was seriously wounded when they were shot by three compatriots in a restaurant Thursday evening in Makati City.
Yin Jian Tao, an Information Technology employee, and presently billeted at No. 812 Tower C. SM Jazz Condominium, died on the spot from bullet wounds in the body. His wife Zheng Kai, 25, was rushed to Makati City Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds.
Two of the three suspects identified as Yang Chao Wen, 32, and Liang Yuan Wu, 29, were arrested. The third suspect managed to escape.
Makati police head of investigators Maj. Gideon Ines, Jr. said the victims and the suspects were having dinner at the VIP room of Jiang Nan Hot Pot located at No. 223 N. Garcia Street, in Bgy. Bel-Air, when a burst of gunfire was heard at around 10 p.m.
Restaurant employees said they saw three Chinese men hurriedly ran outside the establishment. The suspects were chased by Zheng while shouting in Chinese language.
Makati police chief Col. Rogelio Simon said security guards and members of Bantay-Bayan recovered from the suspects two hand guns. Another firearm was recovered outside the restaurant vicinity.
The suspects also yielded a black bag allegedly owned by the slain victim containing P345,000, a Chinese Army Identification Card and assorted ammunition.
Col. Simon said suspect Yang Chao Wen was wounded during the shooting and was brought to the nearest hospital.
Police are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the motive behind the killing.
