CIDG-NCR agents arrest 5 for illegal drugs, guns, rapes

AGENTS of the National Capital Region Field Unit of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group this week arrested five men wanted for illegal drugs and guns and multiple rapes during separate anti-crime operations in Metro Manila, CIDG-NCR chief Lieutenant Colonel Arnold Thomas C. Ibay announced yesterday.

Ibay said that one of the suspects identified as Romulo Gerilla, a 56-year-old junkshop helper from Ninada Street in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Friday by members of the Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit of the CIDG-NCR on the strength of warrants of arrest for two counts of rape, two counts of statutory rape and lascivious conduct.

The official said that the suspect was arrested by officers along Chino Roces, Barangay Magallanes, Makati City.

No bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the suspect.

In a report to PNP-CIDG director, Major General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel, the CIDG-NCR chief said that two other suspects identified as Rolando Tapeño alias ‘Rolly/Sandok’ and Mark Gadingan were arrested in separate raids in M. dela Fuente Street in Sampaloc, Manila around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Ibay said that the raid at Tapeño’s residence at no. 147 M. de la Fuente St. resulted in the recovery of one caliber .38 revolver with three live ammunition, a heat-sealed plastic packet containing some 22 grams of shabu worth around P140,000 and a bundle of plastic sachets being used to repack the illegal drugs.

The raid at the house of Gadingan at no. 65-F M. dela Fuente St. led to the recovery of a cal. 38 revolver with four bullets. A 3rd raid on the residence of one Jhun Santos at no. 66-E Loreto St. in Sampaloc yielded negative result.

Ibay said that the raids were conducted by a team of CIDG-Manila Field Unit operatives led by Major Bryan Dexter Andulan and the Manila Police District SWAT led by Captain Narrolf Tan.

A third suspect identified as Rey Belza, 34, was arrested in his house at Block 2, Lot 3, Gawad Kalinga Licad Australian Village in Payatas A, Q.C. by CIDG-Q.C. operatives led by Cpt. Edwin Fuggan for attempted homicide.

A fourth, identified as Arnel Silleza, 31, was arrested in his house at Phase 2, Pabahay 2000 in Barangay Muzon in San Jose del Monte City.

Ibay said that both Tapeño and Gadingan will be facing charges for violation of RA 10591. A separate case for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Tapeño too, the official added.
