Clean rider sticker applicant nabbed for unsolved case

A clean rider applicant, who has a standing warrant of arrest, was nabbed right inside the Pasig Police Station after securing a “clean rider sticker” Thursday afternoon.

Pasig police chief Senior Supt. Rizalito Gapas said suspect Benito Luzon, 42, married, of 195 51st Engr. St., Soldiers Village, Bgy. Sta. Lucia, Pasig City, was nabbed inside the Pasig Police Station Intelligence Unit office headed by Chief Insp. Malvin Medrano at 3:45 p.m.

Medrano said prior to his arrest, the suspect went to the Pasig Police Station to get his “clean rider sticker” which he applied a week ago.

The “Oplan Clean Rider”, recently launched by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde, a campaign to curb riding-in-tandem criminals. The stickers will be available to motorists who will voluntarily register their motorbikes to the PNP.

When Intelligence personnel verified the application of Luzon at the Clearance Section and Warrant and Subpoena Section they discovered that the applicant has pending record for grave coercion.

According to Medrano, they secured a certification from the court for further verification. Authorities found out that Luzon has pending warrant of arrest for the case of grave coercion docketed under Criminal Case No. 108002 before the Pasig City Metropolitan Trial Court (NTC) Branch 72, Presiding Judge Joy Casihan-Dumlao.

When Luzon showed up at the police station get his “clean rider sticker”, he was immediately brought to the holding area of the station.

Luzon did not resist arrest and upon interrogation, he said he was not aware that he has pending case before the court, Medrano added.

The warrant of arrest against Luzon, police said, was dated December 7, 2009.

The suspect is temporarily detained at the Pasig police detention cell.
