A 29-year-old motorcycle rider who was initially accosted for not wearing a helmet was arrested after it was discovered that the motorcycle he was driving was stolen.
PO2 Chuck Jethro Mariano of the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) of the Manila Police District-Station 2 may face carnapping charges.
Chief Insp. Salvador Tangdol, chief of the MPD-Anti-Carnapping Section (MPD-ANCAR), said John Louie Ramos was first accosted while driving a gray Yamaha Mio Sporty at a checkpoint at the corner of A. Francisco and Onyx Streets at around 7 p.m. last Thursday for driving without helmet.
Upon verification with the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), it was found out that Ramos took the motocycle from a teacher who parked it in front of a fastfood outlet at the corner of Tandang Sora and Visayas Avenue in Quezon City in July 2018.
During investigation, Ramos said he only borrowed the motorcycle from PO2 Mariano. From the compartment, police found the property acknowledgement receipt with the cop’s picture.
PO2 Mariano is being investigated to find out how the motorcycle ended up with him.
