PATROLLING agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Quezon City Police District at around 3:30 a.m. yesterday chanced upon a taxi robbery in progress and shot and killed one of the two suspects in an ensuing firefight, a report to PNP-CIDG chief, Director Roel B. Obusan said.
CIDG National Capital Region Field Unit chief, Senior Superintendent Eleazar Matta said one caliber 9mm semi-automatic pistol with three live ammunition and one cal. .38 revolver with three bullets and two spent cartridges and P1,500 in cash were recovered from the possession of the slain suspect.
Matta said members of the CIDG-Q.C. District Field Unit and the QCPD District Special Operations Unit were on their way to conduct a joint operation against a wanted person in the city when they chanced upon the robbery in progress inside a passenger taxi along Malakas Street in Barangay Pinyahan.
The official said the lawmen spotted one of the suspects pointing a gun on the body of the taxi driver prompting them to stop and try to accost the suspects. However, the suspects began firing at the lawmen who returned fire, killing one on the spot.
The second suspect managed to escape and is still being hunted.
