THE Department of Health (DoH) is eyeing to administer Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to around 40,000 children in Marikina City or at least 95 percent of the total number of children in the city, a DoH official said.
Dr.Maria Rosario Vergeire, DoH assistant secretary of the Public Health Services Team, joined Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro during the synchronized OPV vaccination in Marikina City on Monday.
Halimbawa, hindi na-reach ‘yung target sa round two, magtatakda ulit tayo as long hindi na-meet ang 95 percent coverage every month we will do this,”Vergeire said.
The Marikina local government formed 59 vaccination teams, composed of various unit of the city government, to reach the target of the DoH.
The mayor and the DoH assistant secretary led the administering of OPV at the Parang Health Center. They then went to other health centers, and also conducted house to house vaccination in other barangays.
Mayor Teodoro, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of maintaining the cleanliness in their respective homes in order for viruses like polio to not multiply in their surroundings.
Mayor Teodoro lauded the DoH for its very effective and successful awareness campaign on the OPV, saying many parents were encouraged to get their children vaccinated.
Vergeire said that since the work time of parents during weekdays become hindrance to their vaccination, the local government has made OPV immunization every day, saying even Saturday and Sunday they vaccinate.
