VALENZUELA City Mayor Rex Gatchalian lauded Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the completion of the Wawang Pulo and Coloong pumping stations that will address the problem of flooding in the city.
The two adjacent pumping station projects which were first initiated by Senator Win Gatchalian when he was still the city chief executive costing P1.02-billion are now operational following the conduct of inauguration last week attended by no less than Secretary Villar.
Prior to the implementation of the projects, the city government of Valenzuela has been seeking viable solutions to address the perennial problem of flooding in the city, particularly in the Polo area which always get flooded during heavy downpour.
Several feasibility studies were conducted in partnership with several non- governmental organizations and key government agencies to come up with a comprehensive flood control infrastructure until the DPWH pushed through with the construction of two pumping stations.
During its inauguration, Villar said they implemented the projects to help in draining major areas of Valenzuela City to the Meycauayan River, easing the damages caused by frequent flooding that the residents have long been suffering from and also a big effort towards cleaning the Manila Bay.
