AN alleged member of the notorious “Norman Manite” drug group was killed in an encounter with police during a buy-bust operation yesterday before dawn in Makati City.

Makati police chief Senior Supt. Rogelio Simon identified the slain suspect simply as “August,” a known drug pusher responsible for the proliferation of illegal drugs in Barangay West Rembo.

Simon said that at around 1:30 a.m. yesterday, elements of Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) led by Chief Insp. Gideo Ines, Jr. conducted a buy-bust operation against the suspect on E. Jacinto St. near J.P. Rizal in Brgy. West Rembo.

However, when the suspect sensed that he was dealing with an undercover cop, he drew his cal. 38 revolver and engaged lawmen in a shootout which ended with him dead.

Police recovered from the slain suspect his unlicensed handgun and a black sling bag containing 10 pieces of plastic sachets of shabu.
