Drug-positive ex-police exec gunned down

A FORMER officer of the Muntinlupa City Police Station who tested positive for substance abuse during a surprise drug testing last February 19 was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen in Taguig City late Thursday afternoon, a National Capital Region Police Office report said yesterday.

Lieutenant Rodel S. Torres, a 44-year old resident of Kingsland Village in Pala-Pala, Dasmariñas City in Cavite suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot during the attack which took place along Manuel L. Quezon Street in Purok 1, Adia, Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig City at 5:05 p.m. Thursday.

An initial investigation showed that the victim was driving his Honda CRV with plate no. WCV-800 when the suspects who were armed with undetermined type of firearms fired at him repeatedly without any provocation.

The assassins immediately fled to an unknown direction with their guns shortly after the attack. NCRPO director, Major General Debold M. Sinas has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and a manhunt for the killers.

Lt. Torres used to be assigned with the Muntinlupa City Police Station until he was ordered disarmed and transferred to the NCRPO Regional Personnel Holding and Administration Section when he tested positive for shabu use last February 19.

He was the latest Police Commissioned Officer assigned in Metro Manila to test positive for substance abuse during initial screening by the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory.
