A notorious drug suspect was killed in an alleged encounter with authorities before dawn yesterday in Caloocan City.
Chrisanto Patimo alias “Toteng”, 42, of 443 Raja Solaiman St., Bgy. 37, died on the spot from bullet wounds in the body after he allegedly tried to engage lawmen in a shootout at around 1 a.m.
Earlier, joint operatives of Caloocan police Station Special Operation Unit (SSOU) Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) and Station Intelligence Branch (SIB) led by Senior Insp. Jonathan Olveña were conducting surveillance operation along 3rd Avenue, Bgy. 25 against Patimo for his involvement in proliferation of drugs in the area, when he allegedly fired successive shots towards the lawmen.
A brief exchange of gunfire ensued until the suspect was hit in the body, killing him instantly. Police recovered from him a caliber .9mm pistol, 19 pieces of transparent plastic sachets of shabu, a plastic sachet of dried marijuana leaves and drug paraphernalia.
However, the victim’s son claimed that his father was abducted by armed men wearing black bonnets Tuesday morning at around 7:30 a.m. near their house in Bgy. 37.
He said he was surprised when he learned that his father was killed in an encounter with police along 3rd Avenue in Bgy. 25.
Operatives, meanwhile, denied the allegation and insisted that the shootout against the slain suspect was a legitimate operation with complete coordination with barangay officials and officials of Police Community Precinct (PCP) who has jurisdiction in the area.
