POLICE raided the house of a notorious drug suspect involved in robbery and other criminal offenses and seized assorted unlicensed handguns, explosive, ammunition and illegal drugs Friday afternoon in Caloocan City.

Caloocan police head of Station Intelligence Branch (SIB) Chief Insp. Jonathan Olvena said Ramon Meraña alias “Jonjon Barok”, 43, electrician, tried to evade arrest by hiding in one of the rooms on the ground floor of his 5-storey house at 27 Caimito Road corner Dagohoy St., Bgy. 77 but was eventually arrested at around 2:10 p.m.

The raid was conducted by virtue of a search warrant issued by Caloocan Regional Trial Court (RTC) Executive Judge Remigio Escalada, Jr. of Branch 123 for violation of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Act which was based on complaints of his neighbors and barangay officials.

The raiding team was able to seize from the house of the suspect a caliber .45 pistol with magazine loaded with six ammunition, cal. 38 revolver with six live bullets, a hand grenade, a plastic container with three packs of suspected shabu and assorted identification cards from different persons.

Chief Insp. Olvena said that prior to the issuance of search warrant, Meraña used to terrorize his neighbors by firing his gun indiscriminately especially when under the influence of drugs or liquor.

He also recently attacked and assaulted the barangay captain of Barangay 77, which prompted the latter to file a case of assault upon a person in authority against him before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office.
