Employee hurt as truck loses brakes

A trucking employee was injured when the trailer truck he was in lost its brakes while traversing the Nagtahan Bridge downward and accidentally landed on a center island along Lacson Avenue in Sampaloc, Manila.

The employee, who only identified himself as ‘Rodel,’ is now in stable condition along with truck driver Ejay Figuera and their two other companions who managed to jump off before their vehicle finally came to a halt.

The Manila Police District (MPD)-Traffic Unit said the incident took place at 1:15 a.m. Prior to it, the truck (ZFM-658) was cruising along Lacson Avenue when it lost its brakes as it went down the Nagtahan Bridge.

The truck stopped only after landing at the center island. It was carrying coco lumber that was bound for a warehouse in Valenzuela City.  

The incident caused traffic in the area for about six hours, until the truck was finally removed.
