A former soldier committed suicide after killing a woman and injuring five others when he ran amuck, Sunday morning in General Trias, Cavite.
The suspect was identified as Junny Palacio, 47, working in a construction induatry and resident of Barangay Santiago in the said province.
The fatality was identified as Murharma Bautista, 59, also resident of the said place.
Taken to the hospital for treatment were Alberto Sorio, 57; Recto Marbit, 47, tricycle driver; Pilar Bacaoco, 34; Police Chief Master Sgt. Zaldy Espiritu and Staff Master Sgt. Reynante Tan.
Reports reaching Camp Crame showed that the incident occurred at around 8 a.m. in a small wet market in the area.
According to Cavite police chief Col. Marlon Santos, the suspect who was seemingly disgruntled went out “looking for certain people who were allegedly maligning his reputation as a contractor” in a government housing site.
The suspect went to a small wet market and found his “targets” — Murharma Bautista, 59, and Alberto Sorio, 57. He shot Bautista dead and injured Sorio, also a retired soldier.
After the incident the suspect walked to a nearby house and shot the tricycle driver Marbit and Bacaocao.
When the suspect saw the responding policemen he immediately shot their vehicle that caused the injury of MSgt Espiritu and SMSgt Tan.
The other policemen tried to pacify the suspect but instead of turning himself in, Palacio shot himself dead.
Police recovered a .38 caliber gun from the suspect.
