Gamboa defends eviction of ex-cop from SPD property

PHILIPPINE National Police chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa yesterday defended the move of the National Capital Region Police Office to evict a retired policeman and his family from a compound belonging to the Southern Police District.

The top cop specifically came to the cudgels of NCRPO director, Major Gen. Debold M. Sinas whom he said was merely doing his job when he was wrongly accused of committing abuse of authority during his and his men’s confrontation with the family of retired Police Master Sergeant Arnel delos Santos.

The children of the retired policeman who have been staying with him illegally inside the SPD Regional Director Support Unit Building in Fort Bonifacio took videos of their ‘controntation’ with Sinas and company and made it appear they were being forced to vacate a property which belonged to them.

Gen. Gamboa said that in reality, delos Santos and his family, including the children of his kids were staying in a government property.

"How can we be wrong when we just want to impose our right also in possessing our own land, our own building? Ang lumabas kasi doon, parang mayroon pang karapatan iyong mga tao doon. They don’t. Iyon lang ang siguro hindi naiintidihan ng iba kaya bina-bash nila si Gen. Sinas. But I stand doon sa nangyaring iyon that it was just rightful to impose what is ours," he told an interview.

Sinas said they have ordered delos Santos, who retired from the police service in November 2018 to vacate the SPD building which they will convert into a temporary quarantine facility for members of the police force who have contracted the COVID-19 virus while in the performance of their duties.
