Guard shot by colleague over shifting schedule

A SECURITY guard was critically wounded after he was shot by his colleague while arguing over their shift  schedules yesterday morning at the Marikina City Hall.

The victim identified as Reynaldo Rosal Jr., 37, and resident at No. 16 Dao St., Bgy. Marikina Heights, Marikina City, sustained gunshot wounds in the left neck and right hand and is now being treated at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.

Suspect Ely Cantuba, 49, of No.50-C Okra St., in Bgy. Tumama, Marikina City, was arrested after the incident.

Investigation showed the incident happened while the two guards were manning at the entrance gate of the Marikina City Hall located at City Hall Drive, in Bgy. Sta Elena, at around 7:10 a.m.

The victim and the suspect engaged in a heated argument over an old grudge regarding their shifting schedules.

The suspect got irked and at the height of their argument, drew his service firearm and shot the victim twice.

Police near the vicinity immediately responded and arrested the suspect. Recovered from him was a gun with magazine loaded with eight bullets.

Marikina Mayor Marcelino Theodoro ordered a thorough investigation into the shooting incident.

Meanwhile, an employee of the Pasig City Hall was injured after he accidentally shot himself while on duty at the Social Welfare facility Sunday night in Pasig City.

Police identified the victim as Joel Mercado, 32, a member of the Batas sa Ciudad Enforcement Office (BCEO) and a resident of Bgy. Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.

The incident happened in the Bahay Aruga, a social welfare facility located at Molave St, Nagpayong, in Bgy. Pinagbuhatan, at around 3:30 p.m.

Police said the victim accidentally dropped his .38 caliber revolver service firearm on the floor and the weapon went off and accidentally hit his leg.
