A suspected gunrunner involved in illegal drugs was killed in a shootout with police during a buy-bust operation yesterday morning in Caloocan City.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) head Director Guillermo Eleazar identified the slain suspect as alias “Mat”, who died on the spot from bullet wounds in the head.
The incident happened at 2:15 a.m. along Biliran St., Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, Bgy. 28, while elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-NCRFU were conducting a firearms buy-bust against the suspect.
A report received by Northern Police District (NPD) Deputy Director for Administration Senior Supt. Ariel Arcinas said that while SPO2 Rogelio Limsiaco Jr. and SPO1 Oliver Obligado, who acted as buyers of firearms, were about to hand over to the suspect the marked money, the latter allegedly ran when he sensed that he was dealing with a police decoy.
The lawmen chased the suspect and when cornered, he allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired at the pursuing policemen.
An exchange of gunfire ensued until the suspect was hit in the head and right arm, killing him instantly.
Police recovered from the slain suspect a caliber .380 Marked Keltec, cal. .45 pistol, both loaded with live ammunition and one small plastic sachet containing shabu.
