ONE of the two suspected members of a gunrunning syndicate was gunned down when they allegedly engaged lawmen in a shootout during a buy-bust operation of an unlicensed firearm shortly after midnight yesterday in Caloocan City

Caloocan deputy police chief for administration Supt. Ferdinand Del Rosario said the suspect, identified only as certain “Payok” described as about 45 to 50 years old and wearing white t-shirt, green short pants and black bull cap died on the spot from gunshot wounds in the body while his cohort managed to escape on board a motorcycle towards Barangay Bagong Silang.

Police said that earlier at around 12:05 a.m., joint elements of Caloocan Police Community Precinct (PCP) 6, District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) and Northern Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) conducted a buy-bust operation for unlicensed gun against the suspects along People’ Avenue Bangkers Village, Brgy. 171 Bagumbong.

When Payok sensed that they were dealing with an undercover cop, he drew his firearm and fired towards the approaching operatives that led to an exchange of gunfire.

After a brief exchange, Payok was hit in the body, killing him instantly while his cohort managed to flee.

Police recovered from the slain suspect a caliber .38 revolver with five live ammunition, one caliber .22 magnum revolver, a pack of shabu weighing one gram with an estimated street value worth P6,000 and the P2,000 marked money used in buy-bust.
