Hostage victim tanod saved by cops

A MAN suffering from mental disorder allegedly due to drug abuse was shot and wounded by police after he held hostage a village watchman Friday afternoon in Taguig City.

Marlon Malvecino of No. 10 Road 10, Brgy. Bagumbayan was rushed to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for treatment of a bullet wound in the body, along with his victim Ricardo Marcelo, member of Barangay Bagumbayan Security Force who sustained stab wounds in the head.

Taguig police chief Senior Supt. Alexander Santos said that prior to the hostage taking, Malvecino’s mother and his sister sought the assistance of barangay security force after the suspect again created trouble by challenging anyone to a fight at around 2:59 p.m. along Road 10, Joseph Street in Bgy. Bagumbayan.

Ricardo Marcelo, a member of barangay security force, tried to pacify the suspect but the man pulled out a bladed weapon and held him hostage, prompting witnesses to seek police help.

PO1 Israel Razon and PO1 Glenn Jann Garrido of Taguig police tried to negotiate with the suspect who was threatening to stab the victim.

When Malvecino started stabbing the victim in the head, PO1Razon decided to pull out his gun and shot the suspect, hitting him in the body.

Multiple charges of alarm and scandal, attempted homicide, illegal possession of deadly weapon and direct assault against Marcelo will be filed by police against the suspect before the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office.
