Inheritance dispute leads to siblings’ fiery killing by eldest brod

TWO siblings, a lawyer and businessman, were killed by their elder brother before setting their house on fire after a heated argument over their house in Marikina City four days before Christmas on Friday evening.

Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba said Enrico Soriano, 60, lawyer, and his brother Felicito, 72, both single, were found inside their burnt house at No.21 Peru St, Greenheights Subd., Bgy. Concepcion Uno, Marikina City around 11:15 p.m.

The victim’s elder brother identified as Nilo Soriano, 77, a retired maintenance engineer, was arrested after firemen contained the blaze he reportedly started.

The suspect suffered third degree burns on the body and is now being treated at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center ( ARMCC).

Investigation showed that prior to the incident, the Soriano brothers were having breakfast when they argued over the ownership of their house around 8:30 a.m.

Police said  according to the Soriano’s househelp, Wilfreda Regonas, 47, the eldest brother threatened his two siblings with a handgun.

Several hours later at around 10: 30 p.m. in the middle of the brothers’ heated argument the suspect shot and killed his younger siblings.

Regonas said she tried to intervene but the suspect threatened to shoot her prompting her to leave the house.

As she left she saw the elder Soriano douse gas on his two siblings inside their house and later the house was engulfed with fire.

Regonas called authorities and the Marikina City Fire Department headed by Fire Insp Jose Warren Frivaldo responded and put out the fire around 11:15 p.m.

BFP-Marikina City prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent houses.

Firemen found the body of the victims in the living area with gunshot wounds in their bodies while the injured suspect and a gun was found near victims.

The housemaid told police the three siblings were always arguing over their real estate property.

The suspect will be charged with arson and murder.
