Isko calls for political ceasefire amid pandemic

Isko Moreno

MANILA  Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday called for a ‘ceasefire’ among the country’s politicians and urged them to direct all their resources, energy  and focus on the coronavirus problem which has rendered the world, including the Philippines, helpless.

In his emotional public address via social media, Moreno likewise urged the public not to be swayed or allow themselves to be used by politicians using COVID 19 for their own selfish political agenda.

He also appealed to those who have been preoccupied with criticizing the nation’s leaders and twisting what our leaders say, to donate all their salaries and resources to help the poorest of the poor, even as he noted that a lot of them have not extended any form of help to feed the poor at this time when they need food the most.

Walang magaling dito.  Walang mahusay sa laban na ito.  Huwag na kayo lumayo, mayayamang bansa tiklop,” added Moreno.

He also chided those whose main  preoccupation in these trying times is to flood the social media using trolls or paid netizens who are there to promote their political interests.

The mayor also took a potshot at the senators who have not reached out or helped to feed those who virtually have nothing to eat.

HInahanap namin kayo,” he sighed.

Moreno also attacked those who engage in nothing but talking politics and do not do anything to help the government or alleviate the people’s hunger, saying: “Wag kayo makapunta-punta dito pagdating ng halalan gayung ngayon ay hindi namin kayo matagpuan.

The mayor also called on fellow artists to emulate Angel Locsin who is directly helping the people at this time.

“Bilang Pilipino at mamamayan, ngayon nyo iparamdam. Nananawagan ako sa lahat ng sector sikat may kapangyarihan please focus on our fight ang kalaban natin covid walang pinupuntiryang katayuan ng tao sa lipunan,” he said.

In the end, Moreno said he was sorry if he offended some people’s feelings but that ‘the truth hurts’, clarifying that he had no bad intention in mind but merely to stress that everyone must act in unison in these trying times.
