Isko cited for call vs discrimination

February 09, 2020

THE pronouncements made by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno appealing for a stop to all the ongoing hate and discrimination against Chinese nationals and members of the Chinese-Filipino community was welcomed with gratitude by the Filipino Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

At the  2020 Manila Police District  Annual Recognition Night held in Manila recently,  FCGCCI chairman Dr. James Dy thanked the mayor for his statement, saying his call was fair and is expected to generate positive action,  given his influence as mayor of the country’s capital city.

In the said affair, the FCGCCI and the Philippine Chinese Charitable Association, Inc., owner and operator of the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center which is also headed by Dr. Dy, commended and rewarded seven MPD policemen.  Of the number, five were wounded while two were killed, all in line of duty.

It will be recalled that Moreno, without categorically stating the Chinese, had earlier called on the public to stop issuing statements that tend to offend and blame a particular nation or race for the outbreak of the 2019 novel corona virus, saying no one had wanted it to happen.
